Favorite Outfits

These pictures were taken a few months ago, on a Tuesday. I know that because Monday is my laundry day, which means all clothes are clean on Tuesday, the day the kids always pick these, their favorite outfits to wear. Ethan has titled this shirt, “blue with stripes.” Kate’s is simply called, “my favorite dress.” Anyway, I figured I should document their favorite outfits, because it will only be a matter of time before something gets ripped, worn out, or too small. Kate was first. I know this is common with a lot of children, but it’s like one day they decide they no longer know how to smile. Try as she might, she just looked like she was in pain. A good smile is hard to come by these days. IMG_2796-2011-08-30-13-17.JPG

Ethan, while he doesn’t look like he’s in pain, he just looks a little goofy. Or maybe a lot goofy and I’m just biased. You make the call.

Then, they wanted one of them together. Pretty harmless.

Now this is where the story takes a pretty humorous turn. When we got back in the house, Kate said, “mom I was doing this with my foot” and showed me how she was pointing it. I have no idea where she got this, but I was dying inside, thinking it was the funniest, cutest thing I’ve ever seen. I didn’t take any full body shots and didn’t even notice, so I told her we should go outside and take more pictures of it. When she showed me her foot, I thought it would be cute to have her put her hand on her hip. She got her left one in place just fine, but then she couldn’t figure out how to put her right hand on her hip and she also wouldn’t leave it hanging, so I told her to do thumbs up. I know it looks weird, but I just wanted the picture of her foot so badly. Anyway, I’m trying my darndest to not laugh out loud and there she is, posing her little heart out. Goodness, I love this girl!

Making friends, kinda

We went to pre-school orientation this morning. I know, I shed a tear, too. It was organized such that I dropped the kids off in their class while I went to a parent orientation in the other room. On the way home, I was asking question after question. Me: Did you talk to any kids? Ethan: Kate did. Me: REALLY!?!?!? Who was it? Was it a boy or a girl? Ethan: It was a boy. Me. Oh, what did you talk about? What was his name? ...long pause... Ethan: It was me. I should note that the number one reason that I decided to send the twins to pre-school this year is because they are quite the exclusive duo and rarely, if ever, talk to anyone besides each other. Oh well.

He's a thinker, that boy

The twins were talking in the car. I didn’t catch the beginning of this argument, but it ended with “Ethan, you don’t live in a house!” (good arguing skills, Kate)

E: If I didn’t live in a house, then I would be cold when the wind blew, so yes I DO live in a house!”

Ethan asked me to draw a picture of a kid. I tried. Unsuccessfully, apparently, because this was my critique:

“Mom, you forgot to draw eyes. Kids have eyes. (blinking dramatically) SEE!!!”

We were at the library and the Iguana was missing from his tank. Ethan asked and asked where he was. “I don’t know” over and over again. Finally, “maybe he’s visiting with his friends.”

Ethan: Oooooh. You mean you think he’s dead.

Drew: 5 months

IMG_3626-2011-08-18-12-49.JPG

  1. He’s growing like a weed.
  2. He cut one tooth last week and the second will hopefully cut through any day now.
  3. He’s not sleeping. (See #1 and #2) He got up 4 times to feed a couple of nights ago. Most nights it’s once or twice, sometimes 3 times. I’m SO ready to go Ferber on him.
  4. He gleefully growls from sun up to sun down. And even in between (See #3). Possibly the cutest thing in the world. He says that since he has a tooth now, he’s got to be able to back it up. I tell him with a face like this, he’s not fooling anyone.

5. Hands were so last month. He found his toes.

Worst form of punishment

We were at the grocery store and the kids were fighting (story of my life), so I leaned down and whispered into Kate’s ear, “can you please act like a big girl and stop fighting?” Her response? “Mommy, if you say that to me again... you’re going to turn into a boy!”

*I realize I post a lot about Kate scolding me. She really doesn’t do it that often. I think she just saves her best material for scolding. But while I’m on the topic...

Me: Answering some question for the thousandth time, most likely with aggravation in my voice.

Kate: Mommy, don’t talk to me with that voice. I’m your Kate and you love me. IMG_3200-2011-08-17-10-01.JPG

This picture. Telling a thousand words

The second night that we were in California, some of us were out back, listening to some music and helping with some decorations for Kristen’s wedding (please don’t judge the wedding by this picture. More to come on that. You’ll be impressed, I assure you). I’ll tell the rest of the story by the way Greg tells it: “I’m sitting in the living room and next thing I know, I’m all by myself. I go look out back and the ENTIRE family is dancing!” Yes, I shared this picture of me, doing the sprinkler, but it has a point. My family is the coolest. Sure, growing up, we always did a lot of really fun things. We like playing games, going to the movies, eating out, and visiting cool places. But what my family does best is have fun just doing what we’re doing. Whether we’re sitting in the living room, the car, a restaurant, or in the yard pulling weeds, we’re having a good time. I pray that I can keep this tradition going with my family. Motorcycles

My Uncle Shawn has a motorcycle dealership and to get in good with the twins, he talked about motorcycles with them. One thing led to another and the next thing I know a ride had been promised and NOT forgotten. So, one of the days we were in California was devoted to motorcycles. He was so cute with them and they had the time of their lives.

IMG_3406-2011-08-16-14-11.JPGIMG_3412-2011-08-16-14-11.JPGIMG_3443-2011-08-16-14-11.JPGIMG_3440-2011-08-16-14-11.JPGIMG_3478-2011-08-16-14-11.JPGIMG_3481-2011-08-16-14-11.JPG

After their exhilarating “rides” (slow rounds of the parking lot), he gave them each a toy motorcycle. It was as if he handed them a real motorcycle to take home with them. These now sit in the cup holders by their car seats and when they see a motorcycle on the road, they hold it up and tell me that they rode on a motorcycle. Like, Been there, Done that. I’m cool.

First Mani/Pedi

This month we were able to go to California to see my sister get MARRIED! It was a wonderful trip to say the least and we knew there was a lot we wanted to do while we were there, so we had to prioritize. You know, get the important stuff done before we got too busy.
