Humor Me

House-turning-into-a-home project, phase 1 of 300 is complete. We’ve started with the 2 rooms where we spend the most time.

The family room:

(framed are maps of the 4 cities we’ve lived together: Provo, Chicago, LA, Houston)

The playroom:

I have a few ideas of what I want hanging on the wall, but we want to paint the room before we do that. Do you see this room as more of a blue or tan room (this will most likely be during phase 27 or so)?

And a couple of the only “complete-ish” room in the house.

Monday Shmunday

IMG_5587-2011-11-28-13-28.JPG

  • In the car this morning, we were listening to Raffi. Again. The CD is starting to skip (Cue pity for me that I have listened to Raffi enough times for the CD to skip. He’s good and all. But enough is enough). I told Kate it might be broken and we might not be able to listen to it anymore. Her thought? “Oh, I know what’s going on. Raffi has the hiccups. We just have to wait a bit for them to go away.” Hm. Maybe.
  • I’m starting to think I’m just not cut out for this whole Santa business. This morning Ethan informed me that Santa can’t come in through the fireplace because he’s too big and he’ll get stuck. I pulled the “it’s magic” card, but will that work forever? I mean, he’s three!
  • Looking at the above picture makes me realize that Ethan’s hair was definitely not okay to get away with this morning, even to Target.
  • This tooth #6 is taking me for all I’ve got. Last night was the first night in who knows how long he’s slept for 9 hours straight. Luckily for him (and me and everyone around us, really), he’s a happy little camper come daytime. As long as he has choking hazards in his mouth, apparently.

  • People keep telling me Drew looks just like Ethan. Here’s pictures of Ethan (and Kate) at the same age, to the day (there are some perks to them having the same birthday). He’s even wearing the same jacket. Fits a little differently, though. Poor Ethan. He was a chub.

  • Unless you’re my sister, who keeps telling me he’s my clone. (hold your comments on the ears to yourself.) I have no idea how old I am in this picture. iPhoto didn’t exist then. I know, I’m old like that.

  • Speaking of old, I’ll be 30 on Thursday. In some ways, I feel like I’ve accomplished quite a bit in my stay here on Earth. But then I think, “30? Do I have a 5 year plan? And is it “don’t die”?” name the movie

8 months

IMG_5308-2011-11-18-19-43.JPGIMG_5315-2011-11-18-19-43.JPGIMG_5477-2011-11-18-19-43.JPGIMG_5463-2011-11-18-19-43.JPG

  • He STILL does not sleep through the night. Every time I have him sleep trained (to 9 hours, which hardly counts), he cuts a new tooth and screams all night for 3 nights straight (last night being one of those nights). Then the tooth cuts and I get to start all over again. His 6th tooth came in today.
  • I’d completely forgotten this wonderful stage where babies eat EVERYTHING. And this boy eats a lot. More than the twins combined almost every meal.
  • Watching him self-feed is the cutest thing I see all day. I can’t get enough of those little pointers and thumbs.
  • He’s a scooter. Only it’s backwards and it only frustrates him more.
  • He’s quite limb-y. I don’t really notice it when he’s dressed, but when he’s a bare little monkey, all I see is long legs and arms (see second picture). And his feet and hands are still quite massive as well.
  • He gets really giddy before bedtime and nap time (you see, getting him down is not the problem. It’s getting him to stay down for long periods of time is what’s killing us).
  • When he sees something he wants, he doesn’t whine, he growls.
  • If he’s crying, it’s because he’s hungry. He is content/happy 99% of his waking hours. Strangers always comment on his general cheeriness. (I don’t tell them about the 2am scream fests).

Happy Thanksgiving!

Love,

Chief Ethan, Princess Kate and Drooling Cub

**I finally taught Kate to photograph the way she is in my eyes- happy, sweet and adorable. Ethan, on the other hand, is either blurry or looking like a goof. I guess that’s not too far from his personality, so why am I complaining?

Sucker

Who’s a sucker? This mom right here. Pre-school pictures come around. They aren’t even that great. Kate looks like she’s 5 times Ethan’s size and fake smiles all around. But of course I shelled out the arm and a leg, I mean, the money to buy. So, since I paid the price, I think we all should benefit. I would feel much better if everyone who reads this blog were to print it out, frame it, put it on your fridge, make a calendar out of it, whatever.

I don’t care if you hardly know them and you only read my blog because my sister forces you to. It’s yours.

(best part of the picture: “Lil’ Angels 2011.” That’s good stuff)

Might be her best one yet...

“Since Ethan hurted my feelings, I need some medicine.”

Oh, Kate, if only it worked that way.
